The
Retinue is dedicated to the accurate recreation of Sir
Thomas Burgh's Retinue and Household, as well as
promoting knowledge and interest in the Burgh
family and its homes at The Medieval
Manor House in Gainsborough, Starborough Castle,
Kent and other associated sites such as Lincoln Castle
, during the 15th century, with special
emphasis on The Wars of The Roses
.
Sir Thomas
Burgh's Retinue is a socially based Historical
Interpretation and Living History Society, based in
the County of Lincolnshire, recruiting across England,
but willing to travel around the realm, demonstrating
many varied and exciting aspects of life in 15th
century England.
The
Retinue is non-profit making and our members are
all volunteers, re-enactment is our hobby - not a job!
The Retinue is a member group of both The Federation
of The Wars of The Roses and Livery and Maintenance,
attending major battle re-enactments. Our members
have actual positions and jobs within the household
and many of the men
train with weapons of war from our period,
such as the sword, bill, longbow, crossbow and
handegonne, whilst acting as as
Pantlers, Porter, Butler whilst others concentrate on
the non military jobs such as Chaplains, clerks
and Customer. Our ladies portray the Wisewoman, Cooks,
Laundresses, Nuns, Ladies-in-Waiting, members of the
Burgh family and even Lady Burgh herself. Welcome
to the 15th century Manor!
