JOINING THE RETINUE?

We are always on the look out for new members to join The Retinue!

Medieval re-enactment is a hobby we take very seriously and it does grow on you, taking your time, loyalty, commitment and wardrobe space!

 Full training will be given to enable you to fight with the English Bow, Bill, Sword, Dagger, Crossbow, Handegonne and other Medieval weapons of mass destruction.

The Lord’s Retinue are members of both Livery & Maintenance and The Wars of The Roses Federation, umbrella groups who bring together hundreds of like-minded re-enactors to recreate the bloody battles of Blore Heath, Towton, Tewkesbury and Bosworth as well as other major battles of The Wars of The Roses.

Lord Burgh uses his highly trained household archers to soften up and destroy enemy archers and bill blocks, sending in his disciplined billmen and fully armoured men-at-arms to finish off the gory job, hacking, thrusting and slashing to kill and maim the traitors and rebels who stand against our lawful King. If you survive it will make a man of you.

The Retinue also needs men and women to fill non-military jobs and offices in support of Lord Burgh’s family and his high offices. These jobs are as diverse as – Chaplains, Musicians, Cooks, Candle makers, Dyers, Spinners, Doctors, Scribes, Carpenters, Silversmiths, in short all the important people who made a working Manor House tick – are you hiding a talent we need?

 We can loan male and female kit and clothing to anyone who is interested in our colourful, violent and fun hobby, to get you started. Once you have made your mind up we can help you make all the clothes you will need, point you to first class makers of shoes, boots, belts, purses, and the arms and armour you will need to be a ruthless trained killer for Lord Burgh, or a magnificent gown and headdress for a lady to become one of Lady Margaret Burgh’s beautiful Ladies-in-Waiting?

 The Retinue can bring your dreams to life; It can take you back to an England very different to this dreary and boring country you survive in, an England where being a household member gives you good pay, security, protection from prosecution, execution for first offences, burning for heretics, a good standard of health care (if you pay for it), the chance to experience real period food, camping in some of the UK’s most beautiful castles and historic sites, learning to use not only weapons but also a wide range of recreated tools, cooking kit, leatherwork, and a very high standard of Medieval clothing that befits a soldier or servant to a Lord of high standing – Lord Burgh!

 Membership costs £15 a year for adults, £10 for Students, OAPS, UB40’s with children aged under sixteen free.
